A simple two-person play with a powerful message, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. From LA Theatre Works’ “The Mountaintop” (March 31, 2018) is a fictional retelling of how Dr. King spent his last night on earth, after delivering his famous “I’ve been to the mountaintop speech” in Memphis. This two-person play imagines a deep dialogue between Martin and Camae, the maid at the Lorraine Motel, who reveals she is an angel come to prepare him, King must confront his fears and face his own mortality. The Mountaintop shows the audience a different side of Martin Luther King: a man who is tired, flawed, yet—despite everything—is an inspiration.
